Hamburg, NY, May 20, 2011 – The Erie County Fair is going mobile with one of the first mobile phone applications for fairs in the United States and will be launched in July. A beloved tradition for over one million people each year, Fair guests will now be able to use their iPhone or Android smartphone to get the latest information on exhibitors, events, and all the excitement at the Fair, Hamburg Casino, The Event Center, Showplex and Buffalo Raceway. The initial implementation phase will focus on the Erie County Fair.
“Throughout the years, the Fair has consistently kept up with the ever-changing needs of society, and this mobile app is the latest step in the Fair’s progressive history,” said Dennis Lang, Erie County Agricultural Society CEO. “It is the type of pace-setting innovation that has kept the Fair a treasure, and relevant and fresh in the hearts and minds of the million patrons each year who wouldn’t miss it.”
Today, smartphone app usage is growing rapidly, with more than 350,000 iPhone and 150,000 Android apps in the mobile marketplace. By 2012, Nielsen predicts that 50 percent of all Americans will have smartphones. The free Erie County Fair mobile phone apps will be available for download starting in July from Apple’s iTunes Store and Google’s Android Market, just in time for this year’s Fair, which runs from August 10-21, 2011.
The iPhone and Android apps are being developed and maintained by The Eastco Group in Orchard Park, NY and their partner MacroView Labs in San Francisco.
Here are some of the many fun and useful features Fair visitors will be able to do:
• Find where they parked their car
• Tell-a-friend function
• Facebook integration
• GPS map of the Fairgrounds
• Scavenger hunt
• Get the most current information on daily highlights
• Specials deals
• Search for a show, exhibit or favorite food item
• An alphabetical listing of all the Fair exhibitors
“It is an honor to be working with the Erie County Fair, which has been a yearly summertime staple since I was young,” said Holt Vaughn, CEO of The Eastco Group. “We’re excited for the possibilities for this app to bring together the treasure of a nearly 200 year old tradition with today’s up-to-the-minute technology.”
